Remember parents, watch what you say about your athlete!!!!

We have talked numerous times about parents and their role in an athlete’s career at the high school level. We have talked about what happens when parents get involved to the point of being a distraction. Although not local to Northern Kentuckty, but no more better example than the situation at Scott County in Georgetown that is going on right now.

Here is a quote that the KHSAA released on the 18th regarding the situation:

“Because of public statements made by Clay Euton (the father of one of the students) indicating that his son’s transfer to Scott County was in whole or partly motivated by a desire to play basketball at the school as well as concerns involving the recent transfer of other AAU basketball teammates to Scott County, Dakotah Euton’s request for a waiver of Bylaw 6 was denied.”

How does this affect the Northern Kentucky Schools?? I know that both Holmes and Gallatin County had Scott County on their schedules for the 2008-09 year. We will probably broadcast the Holmes/Scott County game (given sponsor participation). With Euton and also Chad Jackson’s transfers being denied, does this knock Scott County from the top spot in the State for 2008-09?? Maybe. Both decisions are being appealed as we type this entry. Only time will tell.

Both athletes are talented. No doubt. I saw them at the All “A” Classic State Tournament this past year. But at least in Euton’s case, in my opinion, the father got in the way. Have we seen this in Northern Kentucky High School Sports?? I have. Have you?? Comments welcome.
