Job Openings at Walton-Verona

I was looking for some information on the Walton-Verona website and found something I didn’t expect to see. Two folks are departing the Bearcats at the end of the year.

First, AD Nancy Ryan. I caught up with her at the Lloyd Memorial Invitational Basketball Tournament last night and confirmed that she is going to retire after I believe she said 17 years. Nancy has seen almost a complete transformation of the Walton-Verona Campus in her tenure as athletic director including the new Verona Sports Complex. I personally want to thank her for all of her help in the past few years.

Also, Cross Country Coach Rob Hartman is leaving. There is a posting on the WV site for both a Boys and Girls Cross Couontry Coach. According to the KHSAA site, Craig Chaplin is now at the helm of the Cross Country teams. Not sure if that assignment is permanent or not. I’ll check it out.

Villa Madonna loses their only Boys Golf Coach

The Villa Madonna community was shocked to hear the news that Denny VonHouten, the only Boys Golf Coach that the school has known for the past 18 years passed away Tuesday afternoon.

Coach VonHouten was 58. Visitation was this past Friday evening and the funeral service was held this past Saturday at the Villa Madonna theatre.

We want to keep the VanHouten family in our thoughts and prayers as well as the Villa Madonna community, the boys golf team, staff and students.

Coach VanHouten will be missed.

Off for the holidays!!! No show for 3 weeks.

With the Holidays just a couple of days away, we will be preparing (shopping actually) tonight so we will not have a show this week. Cyber Monday: Make Your Purchases Safe While Online

Here are some quick tips to stay safe while making your online purchases.

Look for a customer service phone number. If you don’t feel safe ordering online call and order.
When you are checking out and giving out sensitive information (credit card info, etc) make sure the address bar starts with “https” and not just “http”
Look for a clearly defined shipping and returns policy page.
DO NOT pay by check or money order. If the merchant is a fraud there is generally no recourse.
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Be wary of any online merchant that only accepts one type of payment such as paypal only or only check or money order.
Look for seals such as BBB, Buy Safe, or Hacker Safe. These sites have been thoroughly verified.
Be wary (it’s still ok to order if you like) or online merchants who do not give a physical address for their store.
Research deals by going to sites such as google product search(formerly froogle).
If possible pay by credit card (not your checking account debit card). You will have more recourse should problems come up after the sale.

Remember to stay safe while online. The biggest thing is that if it seems too good of a deal to be true it probably is. Stay safe while shopping online!

Starting this Tuesday, Dixie Heights High School will sponsor the 32nd Annual Dixie Heights Invitational Tournament to kick off the 2008-09 Girls Basketball season. The following schools are participating

Pegasus Sports Network Announces Basketball Broadcast Schedule

Our friends with the Pegasus Sports Network have announced their Boys and Girls Basketball Broadcast Schedule. Mike Montgomery does a great job with his coverage of our local teams in the southern part of our coverage area. He covers the Oldham County area and has games that include our local teams. Here is his complete broadcast schedule for this year.

To listen to the games, listeners should go to http://www.teamline.cc/ and enter 7761. From there, simply follow the on-screen directions to connect to the broadcast. The computer must have Java installed in order to connect; a link is provided to enable the listener to download Java for free if needed. All broadcasts begin 30 minutes prior to tip-off with a pre-game show.For those unable to listen to the live broadcast, the games are archived about 24 hours after the game is over. Click on “Schedules & Archives”, and simply click on “stream” next to the game. Archives remain on the website for approximately twelve months.

Buckeye/Bluegrass Basketball Classic Information

The 7th Annual Bluegrass/Buckeye Charity Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament will be held on Saturday 12/13 and Sunday 12/14 at the new Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.
